Leadership Team
Jim Tyson, Area Director
Jim Tyson was born and lived for forty years in the Valley Forge area of Pennsylvania just outside of King of Prussia. He and his wife Jean married in 1980 and have five boys – Joshua, Daniel, Caleb, Jonathan, and Nathaniel – and six grandchildren. In 1981 the Lord transformed their lives and started them on a new journey with Him.
Shortly after coming to the Lord, Jim sensed a call to ministry that was confirmed by his wife and pastor and others who knew him. He began studies then graduated summa cum laude from Valley Forge Christian College (now University of Valley Forge) with a Bachelor of Science in Bible and was awarded membership in the Delta Epsilon Chi Honor Society. Jim then went on to get his Master of Divinity degree (Pastoral Studies major with a Counseling minor) from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia.
Although serving in ministry since 1986, 31 of the 37 years of that time was shared with other full-time work as an electrical contractor and in contractor supply sales. During his time in college, Jim was the Assistant Pastor of Park Avenue Assembly of God Church in Trooper, PA. While in Seminary he interned at Community Evangelical Free Church in Elverson, PA and then became the fulltime Director of Christian Education at Proclamation Presbyterian Church in Bryn Mawr, PA at which time he made the transition into the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). While at Proclamation he started Grace Counseling Services, a biblical counseling service to bridge the gap between pastoral care and psychological services. Jim was licensed to preach by the Philadelphia Presbytery of the PCA in 2000. In 2002 Jim was ordained by the Susquehanna Valley Presbytery of the PCA and received a call to pastor Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Shrewsbury, PA. This brought them to York in February of 2002. In January 2014, he was called to be Interim Pastor of New Life Presbyterian Church in York. He served in this position until they hired their new pastor in August of 2015. That same month he was called to serve as Interim pastor of City Church York. After a year as Interim City Church York called him to be their fulltime pastor in September of 2016. In 2017, when York City launched its Group Violence Intervention (GVI) strategy, Jim and City Church got involved in the support and outreach side of the initiative. In 2019, after the departure of the GVI project manager, Jim was asked by Police Chief Troy Bankert to apply for that role. After prayer and discussion with his wife and church elders Jim took the position, which was endorsed as a chaplaincy by his denomination, and served in that role until May of 2022. A job search rooted in prayer began and through Jim’s involvement with the CBMC team at the York YMCA he learned of the opening for the CBMC Central PA Area Director. After discussion and prayer with his wife and the CBMC leadership, Jim came onboard with CBMC in January of 2023. As Area Director Jim’s responsibilities include supporting and developing the area ministry and teams to connect business and professional men to God and each other through Christian peer groups and life-on-life mentoring, teaching men to grow in their faith and help others do the same. He understands God’s vision for Central PA as bringing every businessman in Central PA into a life transforming encounter with Jesus.
Dr. Tony Beckett, Field Partner
Dr. Tony Beckett has served as a mission board executive, senior pastor, adjunct seminary faculty member, and radio and Bible conference speaker. His passion is "to help people understand the Word of God and see how it affects the way they live."
Prior to taking the staff position with CBMC he was engaged in sales, most recently as a sales associate at Appalachian Harley-Davidson in Mechanicsburg, PA. On September 1, 2018, he began serving as the Central PA Area Director for CBMC, which is focused on “reaching a man right where he is to help him become the man God designed him to be”.
Tony is the former Associate Bible Teacher for the international media ministry, Back to the Bible, of Lincoln, Nebraska, and has served as Chaplain for the AAA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. He is the author of Real Life, Real Worship and God is Good, co-author of three Bible study guides with Dr. Gene Getz and a daily devotional entitled FaithWalk. He served four churches as their senior pastor and was also the superintendent of a Christian school at one of those ministries.
His formal ministry training includes a B.A. in Bible with a minor in Greek, an M.Div. from Biblical Theological Seminary in Hatfield, PA, and a D.Min. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL. His formal studies for his doctorate focused on disciple making.
God has blessed him with great opportunities to experience the value of biblical disciple making. As a high school student, his youth group sponsors were very intentional about helping students develop spiritually and in their service for God. Other influences in his life combined with study of the Word resulted in a ministry centered on making disciples.
As a CBMC Field Partner, Tony’s responsibilities with CBMC include the development of teams in the marketplace in the Scranton area that help facilitate coaching and equipping those in the business community. This work helps to promote integrity, goal achievement and growth for both the individual and their businesses. Tony started in this role in September 2018. He has a passion for the multiplication effect of discipleship and bringing men to maturity in their Christian faith.
He and his wife, Joan, live in the Scranton area and have three daughters, Katie, Rebekah (married to Mark Cross), and Lauren (married to Robert Butts).
David Waterman, Field Associate
Former educator, pastor, leadership developer and investment advisor, David L. Waterman began work with Christian Business Men’s Connection in Central Pennsylvania in January 2013. He currently serves as Field Staff Associate along with Tony Beckett, Central PA Area Director, and shares the oversight of about half of the local CBMC teams in the region.
A native of New York State, Dave Waterman has lived the majority of his life in Pennsylvania. He and his wife, Patricia (Pat), graduated from the former Philadelphia College of Bible (now Cairn University) with B.S. degrees in Bible.
Dave also holds an M.A. from Wheaton (IL) Graduate School of Theology, as well as the Degree of Higher Studies in French Civilization from the University of Grenoble, France.
Dave and Pat worked in France for almost 8 years, where Dave served as leadership developer and teacher in several small churches and a Bible Institute.
Upon return to the U.S., Dave worked briefly with Search Ministries of Maryland, a home evangelism and discipleship ministry, before serving as an interim senior pastor of a medium-sized congregation in New Jersey. From there, Dave took up work in the financial services industry, where he served for 30 years as an investment advisor in both Pennsylvania and Colorado. It was in York, PA, where Dave got acquainted with CBMC and began volunteering oversight and development of 3 Central PA teams. Most significantly however, due in part to a CBMC study, God uniquely brought Dave under solid conviction of his sin before a holy God, and after years of hypocrisy, led him to true repentance and saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Subsequently, Dave began to sense God’s call on his life to serve the Lord more fully in calling men to follow Jesus Christ and grow in Him to become spiritual reproducers. God then led Dave then to complete his investment career in Colorado in November of 2012 to return to Pennsylvania to join CBMC.
Dave and Pat currently reside in Carlisle, PA, where Dave serves as an elder in their church, and where Pat directs a women’s Bible study and a “Titus 2” women’s discipleship ministry. They have 3 grown sons and enjoy God’s blessing of 13 grandchildren.
